Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your podcast Popsicle Wisdom?
Popsicle Wisdom is mental health education for the creator. As a therapist, I've worked with countless entrepreneurs in the media landscape and found that they lacked the basic education necessary to achieve creative flow -- productivity systems, self-awareness frameworks...so each Thursday, I provide them with one actionable framework from an experienced entrepreneur or myself on how to build a mindset that moves their business forward.
What inspired you to start Popsicle Wisdom, and what is the mission behind it?
In the midst of the pandemic, I was completing a graduate degree in mental health counseling. I was bored. So, I started a podcast. Entrepreneurs made up a large part of those willing to join. They shared their own mental health journey with me. From these connections, I was invited to speak on podcasts and virtual media events.
While I achieved some success, imposter syndrome and burnout began to take a toll…60 to 70 hours a week in a full-time job…while also speaking & podcasting…was NOT sustainable! Eventually, in 2022, I broke down - daily panic attacks, blurred vision, and a sprained ankle led me to quit. But this burnout made me realize something.
With my skills, I wanted to create something that would help people sustain success without compromising their mental and physical health. So, I set out to build a platform that would do just that - Popsicle Wisdom - A place where entrepreneurs could learn and grow together, sustainably.
Your podcast covers a variety of topics related to personal growth and development. What draws you to these topics, and how do you decide what to cover in each episode?
I am driven by data. I believe that our "gut" is formed by repeated pattern recognition. I try to collect experiences. I do this by reading and following entrepreneurs on Twitter and LinkedIn - I read about their wins/struggles and try to curate relevant content around these topics. As a result, most of the topics I cover are related to personal growth and development.
What do you hope listeners will take away from your podcast, and how do you hope it will impact their lives?
Eventually, my hope is entrepreneurs will develop a mindset that promotes long-term growth without compromising their mental health and well-being.
Can you share some of the most memorable moments or episodes from your podcast so far, and why they stand out to you?
Popsicle Wisdom has allowed me to meet freelance journalists, course creators, media owners, and starting entrepreneurs in the creator space. Podcasting opens you up to a network of people that become your "tribe". I have since become friends with most of the guests I have had so far. I call them for business advice and they call me for mindset advice. It's been an incredible opportunity.
What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced as a podcaster, and how have you overcome them?
Time management! As a therapist and weekly podcast host, I've had to get really good at the art of deep work. It's been a process of trial and error, but I've learned to be super mindful of what gives me energy and what sucks it dry.
What are some of the biggest trends or changes you see happening in the podcast industry, and how do you plan to evolve Popsicle Wisdom to stay ahead of the curve?
Short-form podcasting on LinkedIn can be a great way for professionals to share insights with your network. The platform is investing in audio content to keep users engaged and informed. As podcasting continues to evolve and adapt, I continue to shift efforts into shorter-form content that can be digested on platforms like LinkedIn.
